Auterion
My work at Auterion as a Videographer & Multimedia Production Manager
Auterion is the leading open source software platform for enterprise drone operations. As part of the marketing team in the role of multimedia production manager and videographer I contributed to various projects. A few of them will be showcased here.
Creating storyboards, writing scripts, hiring voice actors and editing:
Various teasers and short feature videos for social media:
Planning and producing how-to videos for our customers:
Filming announcements and interviews:
Additionally I produced and ran live streams for product launches, remote demos of drones, created update videos for internal use or client presentations, took product photos and created content for the Auterion LinkedIn and Instagram accounts.
The Burn
Cinemagraphs to capture magic.
A picture is worth a thousand words. This saying has been even more relevant in the modern age since our attention span has seemingly become shorter and getting our attention in the first place is even harder. One way to do this, are cinemagraphs. Used correctly they can capture us and tell a story of their own. It gives us a small glimpse of truth of the environment the photo was captured in.
For this project I've taken my camera to Burning Man in Black Rock City. It being such a extraordinary place, I didn't want to just make a video or shoot photos. So I took a couple of hours a day to find the perfect places and subjects to make cinemagraphs of.
Forest dream
A musical journey to the falls.
This project was inspired by the ambient music I've listened to while studying. Wanting to create something similar of my own I decided to take a hike through the forest for inspiration. Equipped with my camera I filmed various stages on my way to the waterfall which I then later expressed in music. This resulted in the musical experiment Forest Dream.
Videos on social media
A bachelor thesis.
The majority of videos on social media are watched without sound. However, according to Facebook (2016) around 40% of the ads on their website are meaningless without sound. Additionally, not a lot of research has been done on the topic of soundless commercial videos on social media and agencies seem to have different ideas of what makes a video work well. These contradictions and the little amount of scientific research encouraged me to write my bachelor thesis on this topic.
First I did interviews with video- and social media agencies. After that I conducted an online experiment to find out what impact subtitles have on users. The analysis of the outcomes resulted in a list of criteria to evaluate commercial videos on social media.
The thourough engagement with this topic enables me to look much more critically upon social media content and will benefit me in all further productions or marketing concepts. If you would like to read my thesis (in German) or have questions, do not hesitate to send me an e-mail.
Choose Your Sound
A bachelor project.
I worked on this project in tandem with my bachelor thesis. The objective was to integrate as many elements of my studies and hobbies into one project while still being relevant to my thesis. This resulted in a website which aims to let the user experience the interaction between picture and sound. Combining music- and video production, programming, editing and writing. This project shows that even though most of the videos on social media are watched without sound, it is still a very powerful and important tool, which should not be neglected. As I found out during my thesis, even on social media, music and sound design are a token of quality.
The limitations of this project are that while sound plays a very important part in bringing across emotions, it is not the only thing in a video that does that. It is the picture in combination with the sound that sets the mood. However, due to the nature of the website and the video having to fit different emotions, the video itself has been kept relatively neutral. This also leads to it not having the full impact that it could have on the user.
This reportage is the result of a week long trip to Berlin. In a team of four people we investigated what the future for the East Side Gallery in Berlin holds. It shows how difficult it is to preserve history while also being able to fulfill modern requirements.
My responsibility while filming the interviews and during post production was the audio and sound design. The conceptualising, planning of the interviews, investigating and other general tasks were all based on team decisions.
Home Run
An exploration of the Unity engine.
With this project I wanted to dabble into game design and creation while improving my programming skills beyond the web development skills we were learning at the university. For this, I chose a very simple game mechanism which we all know and love from the old Mario games. While I did produce the music and did the programming myself, the art assets were downloaded from the Unity store.
As part of the post production minor we edited this music video. The goal was to experiment with different effects and transitions. While there are certain parts that are overdone here, I was able to pick up a couple of useful techniques to use in further productions.
Ibc_chur
Launch of an Instagram channel.
In my major "Branded Motion" we had the opportunity to start a brand new Instagram channel for IBC (Energie Wasser Chur). Starting with a social media concept, persona analysis and meetings, we planned out content for a whole semester. This contained everything from employee stories and contests to educational animations. In the second semester of that major, the Instagram channel went live and we continued to produce content.
Toxic Blue
A video game concept to raise awareness.
The ocean covers three quarters of the Earth’s surface and represents 99 percent of the living space on the planet by volume. One would think that this fact alone would motivate humanity to protect them. However, the reality is often much more grim. Millions of fish die every year due to numerous factors caused by humans. The oceans become more and more polluted and uninhabitable. This is why the Sustainable Development Goal “Life Below Water” came to be. It aims to manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems from pollution.
This was the introduction to our video game concept. In a team of three we illustrated, animated and wrote about the different design aspects of this project. While nothing was actually programmed, we did make a short video of how the game could look. If you would like to read more about this project, you can click this link .
